Family forced to leave Saskatchewan due to Sask. Party’s health care decisions

REGINA - Today Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili was joined by Kirsten Finn, mother of Conner Finn, and Andrew McFadyen, Executive Director of the Isaac Foundation to call on the Sask. Party government to immediately reimburse the costs of Conner’s life-saving bone marrow transplant as recommended by the Health Services Review Committee but overridden by the Minister’s office. The Official Opposition is also calling on the Sask. Party government to expand prenatal screening to better detect rare diseases before they progress. 

“This is once again a case of this Minister of Health ignoring expert recommendations causing lasting effects for Saskatchewan families. Why on earth would he ignore the recommendations of his own Health Services Review Committee? The Finns were just following the recommendations they received from the SHA to provide the best care for their child,” said Meili. “This government is forcing Saskatchewan families into impossible situations. No family in Saskatchewan should be forced to go near-bankrupt, needing to leave the province or country, all because the Minister of Health feels that he somehow knows better than the medical experts. Families like the Finns deserve so much better.”

“These are the stories this government ignored this summer. These are the very real consequences of playing politics during a pandemic,” said Meili. “When this government talks about fairness, who are they talking about? They certainly aren’t talking about the thousands of Saskatchewan patients currently suffering without care due to Premier Moe and Minister Merriman’s decisions to ignore the science and medical recommendations.”

Worst-in-nation job numbers leaves Saskatchewan with the worst of both worlds

REGINA - With Statistics Canada reporting that 6,500 jobs were lost in October, Official Opposition Critic for Jobs and the Economy Aleana Young is calling on the Sask. Party to get the 4th wave of COVID-19 under control to address the worst-in-the-nation jobs numbers.

“We have the worst of both worlds under this government - Saskatchewan had the worst death rate in the country, and the worst rate of job losses,” said Aleana Young. “Protecting Saskatchewan jobs starts with listening to the experts, getting the pandemic under control, and then finally coming up with a real jobs plan to get Saskatchewan people back to work.”

NDP: Most Saskatchewan patients waiting for surgery since Sask. Party took office

REGINA - Today, Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili was joined in the Saskatchewan legislature by Dallas Oberik, a Regina resident waiting on a hip replacement surgery. Nearly 11,000 people have been added to the surgical waitlist under Premier Moe, with tens of thousands uncertain of when they may be able to access a procedure.
