STATEMENT FROM SASKATCHEWAN NDP LEADER CARLA BECK ON TRUMP’S 10% TARIFFS ON CANADA

For immediate release: April 9, 2025

Saskatchewan people are strong. We’ll get through this. But we never should have been in such a weak position in the first place.

People were already worried sick about their farms, jobs, and businesses, and now there are reports that Donald Trump will hit Canada with blanket 10% tariffs.

That could mean key sectors — including agriculture, energy, and mining — now facing major economic headwinds.

The Sask. Party needs to step up and protect our province. Other provinces announced response plans weeks ago, but the Sask. Party is either asleep at the wheel or fighting with each other.

We need to kickstart the expansion of rail lines, pipelines, power lines and highways to get our goods to new markets.

We need a government that’s focused on the future.
