SASKATOON VIOLENT CRIME WAVE SEES 4,800 INCIDENTS — 13 A DAY — IN 2025
Violent Crime Surges In Province’s Largest City As Sask. Party Sits On Its Hands
SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan NDP is demanding urgent action to get tough on crime as new data from Saskatoon police shows there were 4,800 violent incidents in 2025.
“We hear it every day from people in Saskatoon — after 18 years of Sask. Party failures, people don’t feel safe to walk our downtown streets,” said Hugh Gordon, Saskatchewan NDP Associate Public Safety Shadow Minister. “Small businesses are being terrorized, cars are broken into over and over and there have actually been dozens of kidnappings.
“That’s right — kidnappings. In our city. That’s unacceptable and there is no evidence that the Sask. Party has done a damn thing to make our communities safer.”

The Saskatoon Police Service data identifies more than 4,800 violent crime incidents in 2025, or 13 per day. They are broken down for the year as follows:
  • 3,135 Assaults
  • 911 thefts of motor vehicles
  • 556 break ins of a residential property
  • 743 non-residential break ins
  • 487 robberies
  • 445 instances of threats being issued
  • 59 kidnappings
“We’re talking about more than eight people a day being assaulted in our city — the numbers are so staggering, they’re hard to believe,” Gordon said. “We know police don’t have the resources they need because the Sask. Party has failed to provide proper funding.

“This government hasn’t done a thing to address the root causes of crime either. There are 2,000 people experiencing homelessness and a drug crisis that is worse than any other time in our city’s history. We have seen images of the weapons being carried into our hospitals because people are arming themselves out of desperation.”
Residential break-and-enters increased 110 per cent year-over-year, according to the data.
“People are being forced to pay more and more in taxes and rate hikes to Scott Moe and his incompetent ministers — and all they are getting in return is communities that are less safe.” Gordon said. “Clearly Moe, the former Public Safety Minister who was bounced his job late last year and the new Public Safety Minister don’t have a clue what they’re doing.
“We need emergency action to make our city safer. A Saskatchewan NDP Government led by Carla Beck will invest immediately in initiatives to get tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime.
“It’s time for change.”
