NDP take stand for Saskatchewan workers
This morning, New Democrats stood their ground in defence of Saskatchewan families and workers. NDP Caucus Chair and Ethics and Democracy Critic, along with NDP House Leader Warren McCall, shut down a meeting where the Sask. Party was attempting to pass their latest plan to attack Saskatchewan families and workers with even deeper cuts.
While agreeing to cut their own wages by 3.5 per cent, the NDP MLAs are demanding that, after 10 years in government, the Premier and the Sask. Party cabinet ministers accept responsibility for their string of billion dollar deficits.
Following the win in the Saskatoon Meewasin by-election and the addition of Ryan Meili to the caucus, NDP Leader Trent Wotherspoon announced changes to the Official Opposition Shadow Cabinet.
With a new NDP MLA and the Spring Session set to begin on Monday, NDP Leader Trent Wotherspoon said the NDP Opposition will continue to pressure the government to stop making Saskatchewan people pay for Sask. Party mismanagement, scandal and waste with their callous cuts and desperate sell-offs.
“I’ve been hearing it across the province and we just heard it loud and clear from the people of Meewasin,” Wotherspoon said. “Saskatchewan people are fed up with the Sask. Party’s lies about the deficit and debt, the billions wasted through mismanagement like the bypass overrun, and the GTH land scandal, and they aren’t going to stand by while the Sask. Party forces them to pay the price. The NDP will continue to push for accountability, honesty, and an end to Sask. Party cuts to the services we need like education and health care, and schemes to sell-off SaskTel and our valuable Crowns.”
Less than a month after the Premier announced their deficit had reached $1.2 billion, NDP Leader Trent Wotherspoon says it is now clear that the Sask. Party is making the numbers up as they go and refusing to be honest with Saskatchewan people.
With the next sitting of the Saskatchewan Legislature just a week away and, after months of the Sask. Party irresponsibly leaking and threatening more Saskatchewan job losses, deeper cuts, and the sell-off of SaskTel and other Saskatchewan Crowns, the NDP is calling on the Sask. Party to stop hiding the truth and release the overdue third quarter financial update.
