YOUNG: MOE MUST SHOW LEADERSHIP ON EV TARIFFS, ANSWER FOR FLIP FLOP

REGINA – Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Jobs and the Economy Aleana Young today wrote to Premier Scott Moe to call for action on the urgent matter of Chinese tariffs on Saskatchewan agricultural products.

This weekend, the Chinese ambassador made clear what everyone in the prairies has known for months: Chinese tariffs on agricultural products like canola, peas, and pork are a direct result of tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles.
Manitoba’s NDP Premier Wab Kinew wrote to the Prime Minister this weekend, saying, "Eliminate the EV tariff in exchange for restoring full access for Canadian agricultural products to the Chinese market."
Following his two-day trip to China, Premier Scott Moe backtracked on the issue and now maintains that removing EV tariffs is not a straightforward solution.
Young is urging Moe to stand up for prairie producers – as the governments to our east and west are doing – and tell the federal government clearly, and unequivocally, that these tariffs on Chinese EVs need to be scrapped.
