Today’s latest Statistics Canada job numbers for the month of November show that over the course of the last year under this Sask. Party government, the region of Yorkton and Melville has lost a total of 7,900 jobs, down -18.9 per cent or nearly 1 in 5 jobs in the region.
YORKTON-MELVILLE DOWN 7,900 JOBS SINCE LAST YEAR
“This is a Sask. Party government who currently has one of the worst jobs records in the country. In the last six years, we haven’t seen any increased employment in the region. The Sask. Party is actually chasing thousands of jobs away,” said Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Jobs and the Economy Aleana Young. “We have so much opportunity in Yorkton and Melville. It’s time for the government to recognize that economic potential and create good-paying jobs for the region.”
Under Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck, one of the top priorities for the new Saskatchewan NDP Caucus is to maximise Saskatchewan’s economic opportunity and champion creating good-paying jobs across the province.
Not only have Yorkton and Melville lost jobs this past year, since Scott Moe took office in 2018, the region is down a total of 3,200 jobs or -8.6 per cent.
“This is a government more interested in shipping jobs out of the province than supporting Made-in-Saskatchewan job creators,” said Young. “When you invest in local economic development, you see that domino effect across the region. Unfortunately, this Sask. Party government continues to take Yorkton and Melville for granted.”
