WHILE MOE SPENT HIS TIME DOWNPLAYING TRUMP THREAT, SASKATCHEWAN TRADE SUFFERED IN 2025

Carl Beck’s Team Demands Action As Trade Plummets For Fourth Year In A Row
SASKATOON – Saskatchewan’s merchandise trade fell in 2025 while Scott Moe spent more time downplaying the existential threat of Donald Trump to the provincial economy than he did supporting struggling sectors and building for the future.

Recently released figures show merchandise trade exports decreased by 4.0 per cent, the third-largest drop in Canada. Provincial trade with Trump’s America, specifically, fell 11.5 per cent and it plummeted a staggering 34.8 per cent with China.

In July, on two occasions, Moe insisted the impact of Trump’s tariffs was “minimal” and “won’t be hard hitting for the province.”

“Scott Moe is either completely naive or intentionally downplaying the devastating effect of the trade wars with the United States and China,” said Kim Breckner, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Trade & Export Development. “The impact is very real for working people — these are their jobs, their businesses, their futures that have taken a beating.”

Moe has denied repeated calls from Carla Beck’s team to deliver real, credible progress on major projects with the federal government; just one Saskatchewan-based project has been endorsed by the Mark Carney government to date while other provinces have had several move forward.

Moe has also ignored calls from Carla Beck, municipal leaders, small business advocates and chambers of commerce to remove his job-killing tax on construction labour.

“Scott Moe was slow to deal with the trade wars and he’s still actively standing in the way of job creators and economic growth,” Breckner said. “He claims on social media almost daily that the economy is growing, but the data tells a different story.

Since 2022, trade on Moe’s watch has dropped 17 per cent.

“We hear about the very real struggles of working people each and every day,” Breckner added. “They’re working harder and harder and falling farther behind — Scott Moe clearly isn’t listening.

“It’s time for a future-focused economic plan that will create more jobs, with bigger paycheques. It’s time for change.”
