VIOLENT CRIME UP IN PRINCE ALBERT, SCOTT MOE ASLEEP AT THE WHEEL

PRINCE ALBERT – The Saskatchewan NDP are demanding that Scott Moe and Community Safety Minister Michael Weger get tough on crime and tough on the causes of crime as new data shows violent crime on the rise in Prince Albert.

“Our police officers and local officials are doing everything they can, but they need more support from Scott Moe and his government,” said Nicole Sarauer, Shadow Minister for Justice & Public Safety.

“We need to fight crime and take real action to address the root causes of crime.”

According to the January 2026 Month End Statistical Report released by the Prince Albert Police Service, violent crime is up 15% year-to-date.

In January, there were 118 assaults reported in January 2026, an increase from 87 in December 2025.

Across Saskatchewan, the crime severity index is double the national average.

“Before the Sask. Party came to office, we used to be the place where you left your door unlocked,” said Hugh Gordon, Saskatchewan NDP Associate Shadow Minister for Community Safety and a former RCMP officer.

“Now people don't feel safe in their communities or businesses. Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have had years to get crime under control, and it feels like everything is getting worse.

“They’ve failed our police officers who are working harder to deal with Scott Moe’s inaction. The Sask. Party has failed to deliver on housing and fix the addictions crisis.

“Clearly, it's time for change.”
