Despite new tariff threats, Scott Moe has yet to stand up to Donald Trump. The current Sask. Party leader reversed his pro-Canada and pro-Saskatchewan procurement policies just days after Trump’s last round of steel and aluminum tariffs.
“This is a direct attack on Saskatchewan workers and industries,” said Aleana Young, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Jobs and the Economy.
“Donald Trump is trying to crush our economy so he can make us the 51st state. It’s reckless and it’s dangerous — and the Sask. Party has nothing to say.”
The Sask. Party has no tariff contingency plan in its budget. Scott Moe’s job creation record is second-last in Canada since he took office in 2018. Head offices have fled the province and the labour force is shrinking.
All of this makes Saskatchewan even more vulnerable to a Trump trade war.
“Scott Moe and the Sask. Party are soft on Trump,” added Sally Housser, Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources.
“Saskatchewan exporters and job creators are being used as leverage in Trump’s political games, and we’re seeing no leadership from our government.”
The Saskatchewan NDP is calling on the Sask. Party to immediately restore strong, pro-Saskatchewan and pro-Canada procurement rules and take American booze off the shelves again.
