STATEMENT FROM SASKATCHEWAN NDP LEADER CARLA BECK ON THE FEDERAL ELECTION

I extend my congratulations to Prime Minister Mark Carney.

You have an opportunity to deliver on the priorities of the people of Saskatchewan within a united Canada.

That includes a fair deal on equalization, signing a new deal to protect $10/day childcare, doing whatever is necessary to secure the removal of Chinese tariffs on canola, and significant investments in infrastructure — including rail lines, pipelines, power lines and highways — to get our goods to global markets.

It's time to put Canada first. We have a different House of Commons now, but all parties, including the Bloc Quebecois, need to focus on the future and that includes supporting and delivering on nation-building projects, like a pipeline to the East Coast.

I want to congratulate every candidate who put their name forward in this election to serve Canada. I specifically want to thank Jagmeet Singh for his service to his party and to the country.

National unity has never been more important, and for Canada to come together, every province — including Saskatchewan — must be heard and respected. We must keep working until every person in Canada is given opportunity to thrive, to raise their families and to feel they belong right here in the True North, Strong and Free.
