Carla Beck’s Team Petitions For Transparency While Moe Plays Political Games With Lifesaving Information
SASKATOON – Carla Beck’s team is launching a website where, with just a couple of clicks, Saskatchewan people can send a message directly to Scott Moe to stop withholding information about which emergency rooms are open and which are closed.
SEND A MESSAGE DIRECTLY TO SCOTT MOE — STOP HIDING RURAL EMERGENCY ROOM CLOSURES
Emergency room closures have increased 800 per cent since Scott Moe became Premier. So often, people are arriving at emergency rooms to find a closed sign. In response, Rural & Remote Health Shadow Minister Jared Clarke introduced Bill 606, which would require all emergency room closures to be published within an hour.
The Sask. Party initially supported Clarke’s bill in the legislature at second reading but voted it down before it was made law.
“Scott Moe has decided he’s perfectly content with people playing Russian roulette on Saskatchewan highways in the middle of a medical emergency,” Clarke said. “Well, we’re not backing down. We will keep fighting for critical, lifesaving information that we know the Sask. Party has at its fingertips.”
Today, Beck’s team is launching a petition website — NDPCaucus.sk.ca/erclosurenotice — where people supporting Bill 606 can send a note directly to Scott Moe and his Health Minister telling them to reintroduce and pass the legislation.
“Scott Moe’s government has somehow managed to make a medical emergency even more terrifying in the moment,” said Keith Jorgenson, NDP Associate Shadow Minister for Health. “Families are already scared, already racing the clock, and now they are being asked to gamble on whether the emergency room is even open.
“It is bad enough that the Sask. Party government cannot keep emergency rooms open. It is indefensible that they will not even tell families exactly when the doors are closed.”
Jorgenson recently mailed a physical petition supporting Bill 606 and evidence that the provincial health authority has real-time access to emergency room closures to every municipality in Saskatchewan. Last week, he canvassed for petition signatures in Kipling alongside the local mayor.
“My message to Scott Moe is this — just because the legislature is rising in a few days doesn’t mean this issue is going away.
“Every minute matters in an emergency. Saskatchewan families should not have to play healthcare Minesweeper while the government pretends the problem is the scoreboard,” Clarke said.
“After 20 years of this tired and out-of-touch Sask. Party government, it's time for change.”
