“We hear from people on the doorstep every day who used to keep their doors unlocked but now are concerned about the rising rates of crime under this government,” said Shadow Minister for Community Safety Nicole Sarauer.
Calls from Beck’s team come after Statistics Canada data, released in late July, showing Saskatchewan’s homicide rate is nearly 45% higher than Manitoba’s, which has the second-highest rate in the country, and nearly three times higher than Alberta’s rate.
“After twenty years of Scott Moe and the Sask. Party government, people are paying through the nose in taxes, fees, and rate hikes, all the while feeling less safe in their communities,” said Sarauer.
According to Statistics Canada, Saskatchewan’s homicide rate is 57% higher now than when Scott Moe became Premier and 74% higher now than when the Sask. Party formed government.
Saskatchewan’s homicide rate in 2025 was the fourth-highest on record, at 5.21 per 100,000 population.
Hugh Gordon, Associate Shadow Minister for Community Safety, added, “We need to see real action from Scott Moe and a tangible plan from Community Safety Minister Michael Weger to make our communities safer.
“We haven’t seen this government do a single thing to address the root causes of crime, and as a result, the numbers have become so staggering they are hard to believe.”
Gordon said that crime goes far beyond numbers on charts. Each number represents a friend, family member, or loved one whose life was unnecessarily taken because of a government that refuses to take crime seriously.
“Clearly, it’s time for change.”
