SCOTT MOE’S SASK. PARTY KICKS SENIORS OUT OF THEIR GOVERNMENT-RUN HOMES

Repeated Pattern of Seniors Being Displaced by Heartless Government
REGINA – Furious seniors visited the Legislature today to call out Scott Moe’s government for forcing them out of the government housing units they’ve called home for years, for no reason other than to “create space” for other people.

Senior Deb Stumph received a letter from the Scott Moe government informing her that she would need to vacate her unit and move into designated seniors housing. Stumph has lived in her unit for 30 years.

“I love it here. It’s my home,” Stumph said. “I’ve got friends, and everything I need is right here. I don’t want to move anywhere else.”

The seniors say that when they moved in, the government told them they could stay as long as they wanted and that they would not “age out” of the units. The government is now telling them they must leave to free up units for younger residents.

“It’s distressing what the Sask. Party government is putting these seniors through,” said April ChiefCalf, Shadow Minister for Housing. “They have everything they need in their homes, and they want to stay. What kind of heartless government kicks seniors to the curb?”

Joan Pratchler, MLA for Regina Rochdale, where the government housing is located, added, “If Moe and his minister think we aren’t going to push back on this, they have another thing coming. We grandmas stick together. Understand? You tick off one of us, you tick off all of us, and there will be hell to pay. We’re not old—we’re feisty! Go ahead, try us! Let’s see how that ends!”

“Do the right thing and reverse this heartless decision. It’s time for change.”
