SCOTT MOE HOLDS PRINCE ALBERT VICTORIA HOSPITAL HOSTAGE FOR $30 MILLION

Mayor Says Sask. Party Expecting $30M After Promising City Would Be Exempt
PRINCE ALBERT - Scott Moe’s failing Sask. Party Government has been caught in a brazen lie once again — this time demanding Prince Albert pay $30 million for the completion of the long-overdue Victoria Hospital refurbishment after promising to cover the full cost.

The revelation came during Prince Albert Mayor Bill Powalinsky’s State of the City address Tuesday — it directly contradicts lies told in the Legislature by Moe and his incompetent Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill on Nov. 3.

“The Victoria Hospital is in desperate need of an upgrade — healthcare in Prince Albert and right across Saskatchewan has never been worse than it is right now after 18 years of the Sask. Party,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck. “This is a slap in the face to the people of this city and it’s indicative of a Premier in Scott Moe who is scrambling to fix a fiscal disaster he created.”

“My message to the people of Prince Albert — to every person in Saskatchewan, for that matter — is that you don’t have to settle for this. This is a Sask. Party government that lies over and over to gain your votes and then fails to deliver time and time again. They’re arrogant, they’re out of touch and you are paying the price over and over for their failures. It’s time for change.

On Nov. 3, both Premier Scott Moe and Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill stated in the Legislature that the project would be exempt from community share of the project.
Moe said, “With respect to the community share of that hospital and a change in policy when it comes to that project, Mr. Speaker, on the Government of Saskatchewan funding 100 per cent of the capital cost of that facility."

Cockrill added later, “Mr. Speaker, the Premier in his comments earlier today pointed out that the Prince Albert Victoria Hospital project is exempt from community share, saving Prince Albert taxpayers nearly $200 million with the building of that new hospital building. These are exactly the sort of investments, Mr. Speaker, that put patients first and make care available closer to home.”

“As this project balloons way over budget, the government expected Prince Albert to pay $200 million for the hospital. Then, Scott Moe promised he would cover it. Now Moe is back expecting the city to find $30 million?” said Jordan McPhail, Saskatchewan NDP Northern Affairs Shadow Minister and a former town councillor.

“The incompetencies of this Premier and Health Minister shouldn't be the burden of the municipal budget of Prince Albert to bear.

“The Sask. Party will keep doing this over and over to help cover up Scott Moe’s financial mess. Enough is enough, let’s send these guys packing and get to work delivering healthcare, making communities safer and lowering the cost of living on Day 1 of Saskatchewan NDP Government led by Carla Beck.

“Prince Albert is ready for change.”
