SCOTT MOE HIDES WILDFIRE REPORT, LEAVES VICTIMS WITHOUT ANSWERS

Report Promised By February, Fire Season Weeks Away
SASKATOON — Carla Beck’s team is standing with victims of last year’s wildfires in the North and calling on Scott Moe to immediately release the long-promised MNP review report — originally promised for February — as Saskatchewan heads toward another potentially dangerous wildfire season.
“Saskatchewan people expect transparency and leadership, especially when it comes to public safety,” said Vicki Mowat, Deputy Leader of the Saskatchewan NDP.

“Scott Moe promised to release this report by February — that date came and went months ago. After what happened last year, a lot of people rightly question whether or not the Sask. Party government is prepared for this wildfire season.”

Denare Beach resident Dustin Trumbley lost his home in the fires and says that he is deeply disappointed that he does not have closure nearly a year after the tragedy.

“It’s the same pattern over and over with these guys. Say one thing, do another. You can’t trust them,” said Dustin Trembley, Resident of Denare Beach, “We had hope that we would see recommendations and a plan so our community can feel safe. Another broken promise.”

Instead of a truly public and transparent investigation, the Sask. Party commissioned the MNP report to provide an assessment of the province’s 2025 wildfire response, including documented failures and concrete recommendations for improvement.

Questions have already arisen regarding the Sask. Party's preparedness for the upcoming wildfire season. The SPSA has recently admitted that they are not on track to get all of their waterbombers in working condition by the start of the upcoming fire season. The Opposition also continues to hear reports that wildfire victims that were displaced last year are still held up in hotels.

“We have legislation before the House — the Wildfire Strategy Act,” added Leroy Laliberte, Shadow Minister for First Nations and Metis Affairs. “If Scott Moe truly cared about protecting northern communities, he would pass it.

“Our communities need answers. They need a real plan now and they need to have a seat at the table. It’s time for change.”
