SHA EXECUTIVES RECEIVE YET ANOTHER PAY RAISE WHILE FRONTLINE HEALTHCARE WORKERS HOLD SOME OF THE LOWEST WAGES IN THE COUNTRY

Raises For Moe’s Insiders, Stagnant Wages For The People Providing Care
SASKATOON – Carla Beck’s team is sounding the alarms on new data from the Saskatchewan Health Authority’s (SHA) most recent annual report which shows that their executive team has received yet another pay increase, all while frontline healthcare staff have gone four years without a contract.

The 2025-26 annual report shows that SHA executives received an average pay increase of 6.1 per cent, with some members receiving increases of up to 13.4 per cent, or an additional $28,282. This stands in sharp contrast to the experience of healthcare workers represented by CUPE 5430, SEIU-West, and SGEU, who have gone without a general wage increase since 2022.

“This Sask. Party government continues to have no shame,” said Carla Beck. “Shelling out big cheques for the SHA execs while frontline healthcare workers are having to visit the food bank just to get by.”

Last month, CUPE reported that continuing care aides, food service workers, environmental service workers, and laundry service workers employed by the SHA are the lowest paid in Canada. In comparison with their counterparts in the other nine provinces, all four occupations ranked dead last in wages here in Saskatchewan.

“This is a government that does absolutely nothing to keep wages competitive for healthcare workers and then is shocked when they can’t recruit or retain anyone,” Beck added.

“It is very clear that there is just a complete lack of respect from this government to our hardworking frontline staff. These are the people who are keeping this crumbling system together.”

For months, Carla Beck and her team have been calling on Health Minister Jeremy Cockrill to use his power under the Provincial Health Authority Act to enact a pay freeze onto SHA executives until a fair agreement for frontline staff is reached.

“I want the people of Saskatchewan to know that when you’re waiting for hours in an overcrowded, understaffed emergency room or clinic, it’s not because our frontline healthcare workers aren’t doing everything they can. These folks are carrying an impossible burden.

“The real problem is a Sask. Party government that seems more interested in rewarding SHA executives and insiders while asking frontline workers to do more with less. It’s time for Slow Moe and his sidekick Jeremy Cockrill to get to the bargaining table and reach a fair deal.

“It’s time for change.”
