SCOTT MOE CAN’T DELIVER HEALTHCARE IN HIS OWN BACKYARD

For immediate release: April 28, 2025

The Parkland Integrated Health Centre in Shellbrook closed services yet again over the weekend, healthcare whistleblowers have told the Saskatchewan NDP.

"Families should be able to count on healthcare close to home, when and where they need it, now and into the future,” said Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Health Minister Vicki Mowat.

“The Sask. Party is cutting healthcare and our hospitals are closing, even in Premier Moe’s own backyard.”

Government data obtained via a freedom of information request show a pattern of healthcare closures in the Rosthern-Shellbrook constituency.

The three hospitals and health centres serving Rosthern-Shellbrook — the Parkland Integrated Health Centre, Rosthern Hospital, and Shellbrook Hospital — faced a combined 43 days of service disruptions between August 2019 and May 2024.

Diagnostics services were closed for 22 days. Emergency services were closed for 13 days. Medical services (non-specific closures) were closed for 8 days.

"We used to lead the nation in healthcare, but now we’re ranked last place in wait times and healthcare worker recruitment and retention,” said Meara Conway, Shadow Minister for Rural and Remote Health.

“After 18 years in power, the Sask. Party is taking our rural and northern communities for granted.”

The Saskatchewan NDP is calling on the Sask. Party government to stop cutting the health budget and keep rural and remote hospitals open.
