SASKATCHEWAN SEES RENT INCREASE FOR 47 CONSECUTIVE MONTHS

Saskatchewan Rent Has Increased Over 26% Over The Last Three Years
SASKATOON – Carla Beck’s team is demanding action from Scott Moe and the Sask. Party to address rising rent prices that have shot up for 47 straight months. Rentals.ca June 2026 report, released Monday, details that rent in Saskatchewan increased 2.3 per cent in the month of June, while rent in British Columbia, Ontario and Alberta all decreased.
The national average rent decreased by 4.7 per cent.

“Our team is hearing from people each and every day struggling to pay rent, while the government does nothing to respond,” said April ChiefCalf, Shadow Minister for Housing.

“People are working harder than ever and are still struggling with the ever-increasing price of rent. Saskatchewan’s cost of living crisis is spiraling out of control and people need their government to act.”

During the spring sitting, the Sask. Party government refused to acknowledge the burdens of rent increases, by refusing to debate or pass The Rent Control Act introduced by ChiefCalf.

“Our caucus has put forward a plan that would protect renters but also address the unaffordability crisis created by Scott Moe and the Sask. Party,” said ChiefCalf.

In addition to The Rent Control Act, Carla Beck’s team introduced legislation that, if passed, would stop hikes to power rates, car insurance, ban unfair targeted AI pricing, cut Sask. Party taxes on food and children’s clothing, and ensure competition in grocery stores.

“Scott Moe has failed to address the affordability crisis hitting Saskatchewan families. Clearly, It's time for change.”
