SASKATCHEWAN PEOPLE CAN SEND A CLEAR MESSAGE TO SCOTT MOE – STOP THE RATE HIKE!

Saskatchewan NDP Seeks To Go Before Rate Review Panel To Protect People From Skyrocketing Costs
REGINA – With just 10 days to go until Scott Moe imposes a massive, $136-million rate hike on peoples’ power bills, the Saskatchewan NDP is launching a petition website to rally support and fight back.
As well, SaskPower Shadow Minister Aleana Young wrote directly to the Rate Review Panel Thursday seeking a date to present her case in opposition to the cost hike on behalf of Saskatchewan people.
‎
“We’re fighting back on all fronts because we know Saskatchewan people can’t afford to continue paying for Scott Moe’s failures,” Young said. “My message to the Premier and his scared minister is this — we will not let up. We will make sure every family, farmer, and small business in this province knows that it’s this Sask. Party waste and mismanagement that is behind the skyrocketing costs they will pay for power, for car insurance, on property taxes and so much more.
‎
“It’s time for a government that values public money, that manages our province’s finances and our Crowns properly and that does everything in its power to make life more affordable. It’s time for change.”
‎
Young formally launched Thursday StopTheRateHike.ca. There, Saskatchewan residents can sign a petition that will be presented to the government opposing the rate hikes, which are due to come into effect on Feb. 1
‎
The process for the rate hike means that the initial hike is tentative and a final decision on whether to make it permanent is made by the Rate Review Panel in August.
‎
“Scott Moe stood in the Legislature in December and said there were no plans for a rate hike,” Young said. “People didn’t see this coming — because their own Premier lied and told them it wasn’t coming.
‎
“Let’s call this what it is: it’s a cash grab. The Sask. Party ran up the debt — doubling it to $40 billion just in Moe’s time alone — and now they’re passing the bill down to ratepayers.”
‎
Nearly half of Saskatchewan households recently reported finding it difficult or very difficult to meet their household’s financial needs.
‎
“Together, we can fight back,” Young said. “Saskatchewan, if you don’t think it’s right that you’re paying more and getting less, get involved, lend your voice — send a message to this failed Sask. Party government.
‎
“Let’s deliver the change Saskatchewan people deserve.”
