SASKATCHEWAN NDP CALLS ON YORKTON MLA TO DENOUNCE JOB-KILLING SEPARATIST MOVEMENT

YORKTON – The Saskatchewan NDP is calling on a Yorkton MLA who separatists openly take credit for getting elected last year to denounce harmful talk of breaking off from Canada and becoming the 51st American state. 

Separatist group Unified Grassroots is scheduled to hold a townhall in the Yorkton riding represented by Sask. Party MLA David Chan on Saturday. The group’s founder, Nadine Ness, has openly said they organized for Chan and that he wouldn’t have won without their support. 
Unified Grassroots has been holding townhalls to discuss Saskatchewan pulling out of Canada for months. At a Saskatoon town hall, one of the hosts openly advocated for Saskatchewan to take Donald Trump up on his call to become the 51st state. 
“This separatist garbage only serves to hurt our economy,” said Kim Breckner, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Trade & Export Development. 
“We’re playing right into Donald Trump’s hand when we should be working actively to reduce our economic reliance on the United States, break down interprovincial trade barriers and build critical, game changing infrastructure — rail lines, pipelines and power lines — from Canadian coast to Canadian coast. 
“I am calling on MLA David Chan to step forward and denounce this separatist movement so we can get to work on building a bright future for Saskatchewan.” 
Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck has introduced legislation to make it harder for separatists to initiate a referendum on leaving Canada. People can sign on to support the legislation at KeepSaskatchewanInCanada.ca.
