“Saskatchewan people are reporting the highest levels of financial anxiety of anywhere in Canada — and they are facing an additional $26 billion dollar coal catastrophe bill on the horizon, too,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck.
“Summer should be a time for camping, sunshine, and spending time with family — instead Scott Moe blocked nine different bills our team presented, this session, to make life more affordable.”
Heading into summer, Saskatchewan people are facing the burdens of many essential food items up 50 per cent since Scott Moe became Premier, gas prices by 50 cents or more per litre in recent weeks and rent increases for 44-straight months and climbing.
The Moe government also forced anglers to purchase what amounts to a second $40 fishing license, after repeatedly jacking up the cost of fishing licenses, as well as introducing new hunting fees.
They have jacked power rates on farms, families and small businesses by $136-million and continue to tax groceries and children’s clothing. Moe is also planning a hike to car insurance rates in June.
The Sask. Party also continues to tax Saskatchewan Roughrider and other event tickets after a Grey Cup victory last season.
“Our team has given Scott Moe every opportunity to make life more affordable for people in Saskatchewan, and they have shut them down at every turn,” said April ChiefCalf, Shadow Minister for Housing.
“We introduced legislation that would stop targeted AI price gouging, I introduced a bill to implement rent control months ago, and our team introduced legislation to stop hikes to power rates and car insurance — Scott Moe and the Sask. Party blocked them all.”
Brittney Senger, Shadow Minister for Technology, Artificial Intelligence & Innovation, who introduced the price gouging bill added: “We know full well that peoples’ wallets are being targeted by technology.
“We have companies out there that are hellbent on making massive profits while hardworking everyday Saskatchewan people can’t afford to put food on the kitchen table or keep a roof over their head.
“Still, Scott Moe seems to have gone on vacation mode earlier than ever — it’s insulting, it’s ignorant and further proof his Sask. Party government is long past its best-before date.”
