SASKATCHEWAN EMPLOYMENT TANKS WITH 10,200 FULL-TIME JOBS LOST LAST MONTH
“This is a great province with so much potential, but our economy is going in the wrong direction,” said Carla Beck, Saskatchewan NDP Leader.
“After 20 years in power, the Sask. Party government is tired, out of touch and out of ideas. Saskatchewan people want change. They want their province moving forward again.”
The unemployment rate has risen 0.6 per cent to 5.6 per cent and the youth unemployment rate increased to a staggering 12 per cent and youth employment fell by 1,100 jobs.
Employment fell in the Swift Current-Moose Jaw economic region by 1,800 jobs. Employment Fell in the Yorkton-Melville economic region by 2,400. Employment fell in the Prince Albert and Northern economic region by 1,800 jobs.
This bad jobs news comes as Saskatchewan’s population is actually declining. Saskatchewan has experienced two quarters of population decline for the first time since 2007 outside the pandemic years, Statistics Canada has also recently reported.
“Power bills are up. The cost of coal is way up. And jobs, investment, and people are fleeing our province as a result,” said Kim Breckner, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Trade and Export.
“Workers, farmers, and business owners need stability, predictability, and a partner in their provincial government.
“Saskatchewan has so much potential, but we will not get our province moving forward again with the same old out-of-touch government. It's time for a change.”
