SASK. PARTY SKIPS IMPORTANT FEDERAL-PROVINCIAL MEETING TO DISCUSS FRANCOPHONE ECONOMY

Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister Says Government Continues To Fail Francophone Community

REGINA – The Saskatchewan NDP is decrying a decision by the Sask. Party Government to have all its elected members skip a critical federal-provincial meeting last month that focused on developing the Francophone economy.

The Ministers’ Council on the Canadian Francophonie (MCCF) held its annual meeting in Yellowknife on June 26-27. According to a statement from the organization, “the discussions focused on the Francophone economy. Under the theme bringing our communities together by celebrating our languages.”
“This is yet another failure by the Sask. Party to focus on the future of our province and specifically Saskatchewan’s incredible Francophone community,” said Jacqueline Roy, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Francophone Affairs.
“This is a critical moment for our economy, for jobs, for investment, for Francophone language and the Sask. Party is missing in action.”
The MCCF meeting focused on supporting a business culture project, which helps employers retain French-speaking employees, on maintaining language competence between finishing high school and entering the job market, and on digital strategies.
“There were important discussions that could benefit the people of Saskatchewan,” Roy said. “Enough is enough. It’s time for a government that works for the people, that is focused on building a bright future for everyone that calls this incredible place home.”
