SASK. PARTY REFUSES TO RELEASE ANY DETAILS OF MARSHAL MISCONDUCT INVESTIGATIONS

Saskatchewan NDP Referring 290 Pages Of Redacted Records For Independent Review
REGINA – The Sask. Party government is refusing to release any information about investigations into misconduct in the Saskatchewan Marshals Service through their response to a freedom of information request by the Saskatchewan NDP.
Nicole Sarauer, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Justice, Policing, Corrections & Public Safety, called on Minister Tim McLeod and Legislative Secretary Michael Weger to be transparent with the people of Saskatchewan and release the documents.

“This brand-new police agency has already been plagued by criticism,” Sarauer said. “Now, the Sask. Party is refusing to release any information about complaints and investigations about misconduct — it’s a deeply troubling pattern.”

The access to information request asked for the government to release all documents related to the total number of allegations of misconduct or investigations into Saskatchewan Marshals and all information relating to submitted complaints from November 2022 to May 2025.

Instead of releasing any information, the government completely redacted 290 pages of emails and documents.
CBC Saskatchewan reported in July that an investigation into misconduct by a member of the Saskatchewan Marshals Service was completed and that the report had been delivered to Minister McLeod’s agency. McLeod’s Marshal has reportedly resigned.

The Saskatchewan NDP has since written to the Provincial Ombudsman seeking an investigation into the conduct of the Marshals Services. On Thursday, the Official Opposition also referred concerns about redacted records to the Office of the Saskatchewan Information and Privacy Commissioner.

“Folks talk in Saskatchewan,” Sarauer said. “People know what the Marshal did. It’s not very often a police force receives a public complaint before even starting work. It really makes one wonder what he did…”
