SASKATCHEWAN NDP, SIKH COMMUNITY CALL ON MOE TO REMOVE HILBERT FROM CAUCUS

REGINA – Scott Moe and the Sask. Party continue to allow MLA Racquel Hilbert to sit on the Legislature’s Standing Committee on Intergovernmental Affairs and Justice, despite her racist anti-Sikh comments in the House.

The committee Hilbert remains on is responsible for overseeing the Saskatchewan Human Rights Commission and important legislation, like The Métis Act and The Multiculturalism Act.

“You can’t call people terrorists for wearing turbans and be trusted to oversee human rights in our province,” said Tajinder Grewal, NDP MLA for Saskatoon University-Sutherland.

“Premier Moe needs to finally step up and do the right thing — he should not only remove her from this committee but kick her out of the Government Caucus altogether as so many Saskatchewan people are calling on him to do.”

Scott Moe and the Sask. Party continue to side with the backbench MLA despite calls from the Sikh community to remove her from Government Caucus.

The Sikh Society of Saskatchewan has written directly to Moe requesting that he remove MLA Hilbert from Government Caucus in response to her hateful remarks.

“Hilbert’s continued presence on that committee and in the Government Caucus is an insult to the Sikh community and to every community that depends on our province’s human rights protections,” said Jacqueline Roy, NDP Shadow Minister for Human Rights.

“Scott Moe needs to do the right thing and fire her today.”
