MOE IGNORES REMOVAL CALLS FROM SIKH COMMUNITY, BACKS MLA HILBERT

REGINA – The Sask. Party MLA who delivered hateful anti-Sikh remarks in the Saskatchewan Legislature publicly promoted her anti-racism and diversity training as part of her pitch to voters in the 2024 election.

On her campaign website, Hilbert publicized professional training in anti-racism, cultural diversity, and inclusive supports — credentials she highlighted as part of her commitment to representing potential future constituents.

“This was premeditated and hateful,” said Saskatoon University-Sutherland MLA Tajinder Grewal. “She wrote those hateful words in advance and should have known just how much it would hurt the Sikh community.

“An apology and a slap of the wrist is not enough. Scott Moe needs to show some leadership and kick this Sask. Party MLA out of the Government Caucus.”

Hilbert’s continued presence is an insult to the Sikh community and to every community that depends on our province’s human rights protections,” added Jacqueline Roy, NDP Shadow Minister for Human Rights.

Scott Moe and the Sask. Party continue to side with the backbench MLA despite calls from the Sikh community to remove her from Government Caucus.

The Sikh Society of Saskatchewan and the Sikh Society of Regina have both written directly to Premier Moe, requesting that he remove MLA Hilbert from Government Caucus in response to her hateful remarks.

Moe has merely taken “additional responsibilities” away from his MLA, who continues to have a seat at the Government Caucus table and influence the direction of the provincial government.

Neither Scott Moe nor his Sask. Party MLA have been accountable to the people of Saskatchewan and answered questions from reporters, despite numerous requests.
