SASK. PARTY MISMANAGEMENT, CUTS, DOWNLOADING, CONSTRUCTION TAX BEHIND MASSIVE REGINA TAX HIKE

Scott Moe & Incompetent Minister Ignores Calls To Repay City Over GTH-Costco Debacle
REGINA — Years of provincial downloading, cuts, new taxes, and utter incompetence from the Sask. Party government — including its costly GTH-Costco fiasco — is set to make life even more expensive for Regina residents.
Property owners in the Queen City are today starring down a massive mill rate increase, which can be directly attributed to Sask. Party’s mismanagement, cuts and extra taxes.
“The provincial government should be working with municipalities to improve services and make life more affordable for ratepayers,” said Erika Ritchie, Shadow Minister for Municipalities.
“Instead, the Sask. Party downloaded costs and responsibilities onto local governments, increased taxes, and made deep cuts.
“Now, Regina ratepayers are being stuck with the tab — no one can afford another tax hike.”
The Saskatchewan NDP continues to call on the Sask. Party government to repay Regina ratepayers for the $6.78 million bill it racked up by trying to steal the city’s second Costco for its notorious and failed GTH.
Regina’s budget challenges are made even worse by the Sask. Party’s decision to download provincial responsibilities, like housing and homelessness, onto the city.
As well, the city is still reeling from the Sask. Party’s $11-million cut of annual grants-in-lieu in 2017.
Additionally, the Sask. Party has driven up the cost of needed infrastructure projects by slapping on a PST for municipal construction labour.
“What a horrible way to ring in the Christmas season,” said Trent Wotherspoon, Shadow Finance Minister.
“Christmas is an expensive time for so many families – made even worse now by all this Sask. Party mismanagement, cuts, downloading and taxes.
“Regina city council is set to vote on new tax hikes today and we have Scott Moe and the Sask. Party to thank for it.”
