SASK. PARTY HIDES FROM PUBLIC AS TRADE WAR WITH UNITED STATES NEARS

SARAUER DEMANDS EMERGENCY SESSION WHILE SASK. PARTY DEFERS SITTING UNTIL AFTER TWO POTENTIAL ROUNDS OF JOB-KILLING TARIFFS

REGINA – Today, the Sask. Party government announced it will not begin the Spring Sitting of the Legislature for another month, ignoring calls for an emergency session to develop and debate a plan to address two potential rounds of job-killing tariffs from United States President Donald Trump.

Under the Sask. Party’s plan, the Legislature will not reopen until March 19 – by that date, if Trump holds to his threats, there will be a 25 per cent tariff on all Saskatchewan exports to the US and the potential of a 50 per cent tariff slapped specifically on steel and aluminum.

“We are staring down the barrel of job-killing tariffs and these guys can’t be bothered to show up for work,” said Saskatchewan NDP House Leader Nicole Sarauer.

“The Sask. Party is tired after 17 years in office and big losses last election. They just aren’t focused on the future. We’ve seen no evidence of a plan to fight these tariffs, diversify Saskatchewan’s economy and deliver jobs and good wages, now and into the future.”

The Saskatchewan NDP continues to call on the Sask. Party government to reopen the Legislature and get back to work as soon as possible.
