SASK. PARTY GUTS PRO-CANADA MOTION, SIDES WITH TRUMP INSTEAD OF SASKATCHEWAN

REGINA – The Sask. Party government has stripped a pro-Canada motion of its call to condemn Donald Trump, prioritizing their political allies over standing up for Saskatchewan.
The Saskatchewan NDP introduced a motion reaffirming Saskatchewan’s commitment to a strong and united Canada while explicitly condemning Trump for attacks on our economy and threats to our sovereignty.
But rather than supporting the full motion, the Sask. Party amended it to remove all mention of Trump and explicit criticism of him.
“When you're on the ice, and someone goes after your team, sometimes you drop the gloves. Sometimes you go elbows up,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck.
“This government needs to stand up for Saskatchewan and pick a side. It shouldn’t be so hard for the Sask. Party government to condemn Donald Trump.”
Sask. NDP MLAs had planned to wear Canada jerseys for the debate as a symbol of unity and defiance against Trump’s recent comments about annexing Canada.
Sask. Party Leader Scott Moe was asked multiple times today and yesterday to condemn Donald Trump for attacking our economy, insulting our producers, and making reckless threats about annexing Canada.
He refused to condemn the U.S. President each and every time.
