SASK. PARTY ADMITS NO AFFORDABILITY RELIEF UNTIL 2026

Sask. Party Leader says cost-of-living relief “immediate”, Finance Ministry says 2026

REGINA – The Sask. Party has finally admitted that the majority of the government’s new affordability measures will not help cash-strapped Saskatchewan people until 2026.

“Hardworking people who have never struggled before are having a hard time keeping up with the rising cost of gas, groceries – all the basics,” said Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck.

“If the Sask. Party was listening to people, they’d know that relief is needed now. People can’t wait until tax time 2026 to figure out if they are even eligible for the government's programs.”

When asked if the Sask. Party’s tax measures factored into the province’s growing deficit, Finance Minister Jim Reiter and a top official confirmed that the majority of their tax measures will not be felt until 2026.

The admission came after the Sask. Party Leader suggested in a scrum that relief would be “immediate”, and after the Sask. Party blocked two emergency motions for immediate cost-of-living relief, specifically tax relief on gas and groceries.
