SASK. NDP, PARENTS DEMAND ACTION ON $10/DAY CHILDCARE

Senger: Women will be forced to leave jobs or put careers on hold without childcare

The Saskatchewan NDP joined educators and families in Saskatoon to demand that the Sask. Party sign the federal $10-a-day childcare agreement.

“It’s outrageous that we’re still fighting for this,” said Pratchler. “This deal should have been signed weeks ago. Hundreds of jobs across the province are on the line.

“There is no excuse for leaving this money on the table. Signing the deal would save jobs, support families, and secure a vital public service for years into the future.”

The Sask. Party is one of just two provincial governments refusing to get to the table and sign the renewed federal funding deal, putting families at risk of higher fees, fewer childcare spaces, and centre closures.

Childcare providers warn that parents and early childhood educators are growing increasingly anxious about the uncertainty.

Brittney Senger, Shadow Minister for the Status of Women, emphasized that affordable childcare is essential for women’s economic independence.

“Without affordable childcare, too many women are forced to leave their jobs or put their careers on hold. The Sask. Party’s inaction is hurting working mothers and holding our economy back.

“Affordable childcare isn’t just good for families — it strengthens our entire workforce and economy.”

The Saskatchewan NDP’s petition to protect $10-a-day childcare has already gathered thousands of signatures in a matter of days.
