Herbert’s ER has been closed for weeks with no plan to reopen
SASKATOON – The Sask. Party government closed the emergency room in the town of Herbert well over a month ago on August 7, and there’s still no plan to reopen it.
RURAL EMERGENCY ROOMS STAY CLOSED WITH NO SCHEDULED DATE TO REOPEN
“Healthcare should be available when and where you need it,” said Keith Jorgenson, Saskatchewan NDP Associate Shadow Minister for Heath.
“We used to lead Canada on healthcare, but now, after 18 years of failures and mismanagement by the Sask. Party, rural emergency rooms are closing left, right and centre.”
“You should not have to live in Saskatoon or Regina to have access to an emergency room,” Jorgenson added.
Residents from Herbert and the surrounding area are being instructed to drive either 50 kilometres to Swift Current or 130 kilometres to Moose Jaw to access emergency room services.
The Saskatchewan Health Authority has not posted the closure on their website to alert the public. The local community has taken it upon themselves to post the closure notice on the town Facebook page.
“Why do Minister Carr and MLA David Marit not want the people of Herbert to know that this hospital is closed?” Jorgenson said.
"We need to rebuild our health system from the ground up. We need big bold change in healthcare.”
