OVER HALF OF SASKATCHEWAN NURSES CONSIDERING LEAVING THE PROFESSION

SASKATCHEWAN NDP SAYS HEALTH SYSTEM NEEDS MAJOR REFORMS
REGINA – Never-before-seen results from a survey of nurses published Friday show Saskatchewan’s health system is going in the wrong direction after 18 years of Sask. Party mismanagement.
Over half (53.4 per cent) of Saskatchewan’s nurses are considering leaving the profession all together. Ninety-six per cent say short staffing has led to longer waits and nearly 80 per cent say it’s led to patients' health deteriorating.
“The Sask. Party has claimed for years that they will fix healthcare in Saskatchewan — and it’s only gotten worse,” said Jared Clarke, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Rural and Remote Health.
“We constantly hear from frontline workers that the government is actively intimidating them when they should be empowering them – it's no way to run a health system and we see that in the numbers.”
The Sask. Party has driven so many healthcare workers out of Saskatchewan that they U-turned on their election promise of 24/7 urgent care.
“After 18 years of the Sask. Party, our health system is ineffective, uncoordinated, and run by a government who won't listen to the people on the frontlines,” said Clarke. “We need more frontline services and less bureaucracy.”
