Saskatchewan NDP Caucus

In response to the decision by the Supreme Court ruling the federal Carbox Tax constitutional, Saskatchewan NDP Leader Ryan Meili released the following statement:

"The Saskatchewan NDP Caucus is focused on creating good jobs here in Saskatchewan, and prosperity for our province’s  families and businesses.Today’s ruling means that Trudeau’s economy-wide carbon tax will continue to take more from the people of Saskatchewan than they get back, with people living in rural and remote areas being most affected. That’s not right.

This economy-wide price on carbon is not something that Saskatchewan people, or the Saskatchewan NDP support. Scott Moe chose to maintain the Trudeau carbon tax for two whole years instead of trying to negotiate a better deal.

REGINA – Today, on Equal Pay Day, the Official Opposition launched a petition calling on the Sask. Party government to enact pay equity legislation here in the province. Saskatchewan is one of the few provinces that does not currently have pay equity legislation and consequently has one of the highest gender wage gaps in Canada, which is the result of systemic gender discrimination in compensation for work that must be corrected with pay equity legislation.

SASKATOON/REGINA- Official Opposition Leader Ryan Meili and Health Critic Vicki Mowat were joined by Deputy Leader Nicole Sarauer to call for a targeted, short-term circuit breaker for Regina and area as Scott Moe’s COVID-19 failures have caused a catastrophe, one year since the outbreak of the pandemic.

“Because of this Premier we are in the absurd position where bars and restaurants are open while schools close because school divisions have been forced to act as the government sits on its hands,” said Meili. “Families are looking for leadership that has not come from this government. The worst threat to business is Scott Moe’s complete failure of leadership in getting this pandemic under control. He saw the modelling, he knew this was happening, and he chose to relax restrictions instead of protecting Saskatchewan people. His gamble on the vaccine being the only answer is a gamble with people’s lives and livelihoods."

Statement by Official Opposition Health Critic Vicki Mowat March 22, 2021

In response to the devastating COVID-19 case numbers in Regina and area announced today, Official Opposition Health Critic Vicki Mowat released the following statement:

Saskatchewan people want to do what is right and help each other to get to the finish line of COVID-19, when everyone has been vaccinated and we have herd immunity. We aren’t there yet, and until we are we need leadership from the Premier and the government to keep people  safe.

Young: Worst in the country out-migration shows need for real action on jobs

REGINA - For the third year in a row Saskatchewan had the largest net population loss to other provinces and territories in the country. For the first time in 15 years, 2020 ended with fewer people choosing to live and work in Saskatchewan than when the year began. The Official Opposition says that these new Statistics Canada numbers, coupled with 23,000 job losses in the past year, paints a worrying picture for the months ahead in Saskatchewan.
