Beck’s First Caucus Meeting Focuses on Healthcare, Cost of Living

Twenty-seven NDP MLAs ready to get to work on priorities of Saskatchewan people

Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck is putting healthcare and the rising cost of living at the top of her team’s agenda this fall.

Beck’s announcement came as the Saskatchewan NDP met for their first in-person Caucus meeting since the October election.

The Saskatchewan NDP now holds nearly half of the seats in Saskatchewan's Legislature, doubling in size to 27 in the most recent election after support dropped for the Sask. Party.

“We’re ready to prove to the people of Saskatchewan that we are a government in waiting,” Beck told reporters. “This team will be laser focused on delivering real, positive change on the things that keep Saskatchewan people up at night.”

The Sask. Party’s platform makes no new investments in hospitals or healthcare workers, and will result in cuts when inflation and population growth are accounted for in the government’s budget.

The Sask. Party also has no plan to provide cost-of-living relief until at least 2026, if ever.

“People need help right now,” Beck said. “We should be cutting the gas tax immediately and cutting the PST the Sask. Party imposed on groceries and children’s clothing. We’re ready to get to work cutting costs for families and we won’t let up until the Sask. Party steps up with real, substantial cost-of-living relief.”
