In releasing her report today, Saskatchewan’s Auditor found that the consequences of the Sask. Party’s mismanagement, scandal, and waste at the Regina Bypass have gone beyond the shocking increase in cost from $400 million to $2 billion. She also revealed that the Sask. Party is putting Saskatchewan roads and the safety of Saskatchewan people at risk.
Sask. Party failing families, seniors, and children in healthcare: Auditor
In her most recent report, the Provincial Auditor raised concerns with the Sask. Party’s record on healthcare and highlighted failures in long-term care. She also raised concerns about long waits for MRIs as well as flaws in Northern immunization programs.
Surgery wait times continue to trend in wrong direction
Despite continued promises from the Sask. Party, surgery wait times in Saskatchewan have been getting longer, and as a result of the recent Sask. Party budget, health regions have warned that they will only get longer.
“It’s unacceptable to have anyone wait longer and longer for surgeries while no solutions, just cuts, are being presented by the Sask. Party,” said NDP Health Critic Danielle Chartier. “Surgery wait times have been going in the wrong direction for the last two years and for too long, the Sask. Party has hidden behind a broken promise – that provides no comfort to the many who are still waiting.”
Statement from NDP Leader Trent Wotherspoon on Quebec wanting to re-open constitutional discussion
Saskatchewan New Democrats have long made the case for a fair deal for our province with respect to equalization. We'll always stand up for Saskatchewan. The fact is it was this Sask. Party Premier that dropped the lawsuit and gave up the fight on this matter.
And, of course, we are focused on fighting the Sask. Party's callous cuts, unfair tax hikes, and desperate sell-offs, and we will continue to fight for Saskatchewan families and our province.
Sask. Party STC sell-off hurts Saskatchewan families
The Sask. Party's decision to break their promise and scrap the STC has left Saskatchewan students, families, and seniors stranded without transportation, including to school and medical appointments.
“This truly is a sad day for Saskatchewan,” said NDP Leader Trent Wotherspoon. “It’s a sad day for the families and businesses that depend on this essential service and it’s especially a sad day for the 224 people who are out of work because of this wrong-headed decision by the Sask. Party.”
Sask. Party failing on commitment to improve graduation rates
Despite promising to improve First Nations and Métis graduation rates, the Sask. Party is nowhere near hitting their target and, instead of working to turn things around, are cutting more workers and programs that would help support these students.
“Across the board in education, the Sask. Party’s answer has been deeper cuts and fewer supports in the classroom,” said NDP Education Critic Carla Beck. “Even in the face of the tragic and costly gap in graduation rates, the government has stuck with their backwards approach to education and is making students pay for Sask. Party mismanagement, scandal and waste.”
