MLA WEEDMARK, SASK. PARTY BREAK PROMISE ON MOOSOMIN CT SCANNER

For immediate release: May 15, 2025

After Years of Advocacy and Public Pledges, Moosomin Still Left Without Crucial Medical Equipment

Despite years of advocacy and repeated promises, the Sask. Party has once again failed to fund a CT scanner for the community of Moosomin — and local MLA Kevin Weedmark has gone silent on the issue he once championed.

Before joining the Sask. Party Caucus, Weedmark was one of the loudest voices calling for a CT scanner in Moosomin. In a 2021 op-ed, he suggested that the scanner was a matter of life and death, writing:

“The provincial government has no good reason to deny the health care foundation’s request [for provincial funding] ... If it will save lives, we should have this piece of equipment as soon as possible. We shouldn’t be second class citizens.”

Since joining the government, Weedmark has overseen a provincial budget that failed to include any funding for the promised scanner – a top priority for the local health foundation.

Weedmark even showered praise on the budget, saying he was “very impressed”.

Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Health Vicki Mowat called Weedmark out in question period for U-turning on this community priority after getting elected:

“Mr. Weedmark was once the loudest voice fighting for a CT scanner in Moosomin. Now he's part of the Sask. Party government, and he’s given up the fight. After 18 years in power, the Sask. Party is taking our rural and remote communities for granted.

“They aren’t focused on the future.”

The Sask. Party’s budget cuts healthcare by $17 million.
