Roaches so bad seniors struggle to store food in their own homes
MOOSE JAW - Today, Official Opposition Leader Carla Beck stood with seniors concerned about an out-of-control cockroach infestation at a provincial housing unit.
“Our parents’ generation helped build this province and now the Sask. Party has abandoned them in their old age,” said Beck. “I’m very worried for seniors in Saskatoon, Prince Albert and elsewhere if Moe’s Seniors Minister can’t even take care of seniors in his own backyard.”
“The Sask. Party has taken Moose Jaw for granted and it’s time for a change.”
Last November, Moose Jaw seniors traveled to the Legislature to draw attention to cockroach infestations and other issues in the High Park towers.
Since then, the cockroach infestation has worsened considerably. Public spaces have been taken over by the pests, and in many private apartments seniors can no longer store food outside of tightly sealed containers.
The seniors have yet to see any action from their local MLA and Minister Responsible for Seniors, Tim McLeod.
Moose Jaw’s other MLA, Greg Lawrence, is representing himself in court against criminal charges for assault and has not resigned his seat.
