GOVERNMENT REJECTING $10 MILLION DONATION TO EXPAND KINDERGARTEN IN SASKATOON

Saskatchewan Students Shortchanged By A Decade Of Sask. Party Cuts To Classroom Funding
SASKATOON — Scott Moe’s Minister of Education Everett Hindley appears to be rejecting a $10-million donation to expand kindergarten services in Saskatoon.

Wayne Brownlee, a board member for the Saskatoon Public Schools Foundation, stated last week on the Evan Bray Show that he is prepared to donate $10 million to support full-time kindergarten in Saskatoon.

Hindley made no indication when questioned by Bray earlier this week that he would be accepting the donation.

Nearly 30 public schools in Saskatoon currently offer full-day kindergarten funded through the Public Schools Foundation, according to Hindley.

“A private citizen is stepping up to fix a gap in our education system, and I’m very surprised that Moe’s Minister won’t entertain his incredibly generous offer,” said Matt Love, Shadow Minister for Education. “Ten million dollars could go a long way to helping so many students and families in this great city.”

As Moe’s Health Minister, Hindley previously turned down a $2 million donation for an MRI machine in Estevan. The Moe government eventually backtracked on that decision and accepted the donation after sustained public pressure.

"Moe and his Minister need to just get this done,” said Love. “We’re talking about a local citizen stepping up to make their community better, and these guys are standing in the way.

“If this is how a 20-year-old government acts, then it’s time for change.”
