CRIME RISING IN SASKATOON WITH SCOTT MOE AT THE WHEEL

Violent Crime Jumps 13% While Moe And His Minister Sit On Hands
SASKATOON – The Saskatchewan NDP is demanding that Scott Moe and Community Safety Minister Michael Weger act immediately to address shocking crime increases in Saskatoon.

New Saskatoon Police Service data, released Feb. 12, shows that crime is up in key areas across the city.

“Our police officers are doing the best they can with the resources they have, but they need more support from their government,” said Nicole Sarauer, Shadow Minister for Justice & Public Safety.
“We need to fight crime and take real action to address the root causes of crime.”

Scott Moe’s failed Minister Michael Weger has been in charge of Community Safety for three months, and according to the January 2026 Month End Statistical Report released by the Saskatoon Police Service:

  • Criminal Harassment is up 216%
  • Theft of a Motor Vehicle is up 34%
  • Theft under $5,000 is up 34%
  • Theft over $5,000 is up 13%
  • Total Violent Crime is up 13%
  • Total Property Crime is up over 16%
Across Saskatchewan, the severe crime rate is double the national average.

“We used to be the place where you left your door unlocked,” said Hugh Gordon, Saskatchewan NDP Associate Shadow Minister for Community Safety.

“Scott Moe and the Sask. Party have had long enough to get crime under control — and they’re clearly failing to keep people safe.

“They’ve failed on housing, on making like more affordable and on providing real support to fight the drug addictions crisis.

“Clearly, it's time for change.”
