CARLA BECK TELLS SASKATCHEWAN WORKERS THEY DESERVE BETTER

NDP Leader Promises Better Wages, Lower Cost Of Living, More Investment In Healthcare & Education

SASKATOON – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck addressed workers Saturday, telling them they deserved better than they’ve been getting over 18 years of the Sask. Party.

“This Scott Moe government lies, refuses to bargain in good faith and hides when the going gets tough,” Beck told workers gathered for the Saskatoon and District Labour Council Annual General Meeting on Saturday. “No more — that’s not going to be how things work on my watch.

“You deserve better. We’re going to deliver better for you. It’s time for change.”

Beck said she’s spoken directly with frontline healthcare workers who work a 12-hour shift and then have to stop at the food bank on the way home because their wages have kept up with the cost-of-living and they haven’t had a contract in more than three years.

“The Saskatchewan NDP Government will bargain in good faith and we’ll work day in and day out to create more jobs with bigger paycheques,” Beck said. “We will deliver big, bold change in healthcare.

“We will support education with proper investment and build new schools where and when they’re needed. We will fight crime and take real, serious measures to address the root causes.

“And we will take steps on Day 1 to lower the cost of living. You will pay less for rent, less for food, less for clothing for your kids.”

Beck urged young workers to take part in a new, ambitious project focused on keeping young people in Saskatchewan at YourFutureYourSay.ca.

I love this province,” Beck said. “It's where I was born, it’s where I’ve raised my three kids — and it’s where I see so much potential Every. Single. Day.

“Let’s dream big, let’s bring forward our ideas. Let’s put workers first. Let’s deliver change.”

Beck and several other Saskatchewan NDP MLAs also took questions from SDLC members at the AGM Saturday.
