Scott Moe, Sask. Party Have Tried To Vilify Frontline Workers Speaking Out About Dangerous Working Conditions In Hospitals
SASKATOON – In response to massive public backlash, Carla Beck’s team intends to bring forward legislation this spring banning the provincial health authority from introducing a “snitch line” targeting frontline workers.
CARLA BECK’S TEAM INTENDS TO INTRODUCE LEGISLATION BANNING HEALTH AUTHORITY SNITCH LINES
In January, the Official Opposition exposed a plan to establish an "anonymous reporting mechanism” that would likely be used to target the workers who have been speaking out against horrific working conditions on the frontlines of Saskatchewan’s overrun hospitals. The Saskatchewan Health Authority, whose senior ranks are filled with Scott Moe’s own donors and campaign insiders, previously attempted in 2019 to establish a similar snitch line but backed off in the face of public backlash.
Now, they’re trying again.
“We intend to bring forward legislation during the Spring Sitting that makes things really simple — no snitch lines in Saskatchewan hospitals,” said Nathaniel Teed, Saskatchewan NDP Labour Shadow Minister. “The Sask. Party’s health authority will continue relentlessly to target the very workers exposing their failures, so we’re going to take away this intimidation tactic once and for all.
“Frontline healthcare workers should be able to focus on stitches and not have to worry about snitches.”
The Saskatchewan NDP is also launching a new petition website — StitchesNotSnitches.ca and encouraging more people to sign a petition in opposition to the snitch lines.
“We need big, bold change to fix Saskatchewan healthcare, which is in worse shape than ever after nearly 20 years of Scott Moe and the Sask. Party,” said Keith Jorgenson, Saskatchewan NDP Associate Shadow Health Minister.
“We should be working collaboratively with frontline workers to deliver that change and that’s exactly what Carla Beck and a Saskatchewan NDP Government will do on Day 1.”
