CARLA BECK’S TEAM HOLDS PRINCE ALBERT TOWN HALL ON DELIVERING BIG, BOLD CHANGE IN HEALTHCARE

Overcapacity Emergency Rooms, Lack Of Physicians And More Plaguing Healthcare In Northern Community
PRINCE ALBERT – Carla Beck’s team heard directly from Prince Albert residents Thursday about their ideas on how to improve Saskatchewan’s crumbling healthcare system.

During an Exhibition Grounds town hall, held as part of the Your Care, Your Say consultation, Beck said people in the city deserve better healthcare and committed to delivering a credible plan to staff the Victoria Hospital expansion. The Sask. Party first committed to the much-needed expansion project more than 2,300 days ago but hasn’t once presented a plan to properly staff the facility.

“Saskatchewan has so much potential – it is quite literally the birthplace of Medicare,” Beck said. “After 20 years of Sask. Party failures, we know the existing Prince Albert hospital is constantly overcapacity and patient care is suffering as a result.

“We know that workers here are burning out as they do all they can to hold together this healthcare system, ruined over 20 years of Sask. Party failures.

“Our message to the people of Prince Albert is this — you deserve better. We change the government and then deliver big, bold change in healthcare.”

This town hall is the second in a series of public consultations where the Saskatchewan NDP will hear directly from residents about the challenges facing the healthcare system and discuss solutions. Beck’s team has also held literally hundreds of discussions with stakeholders, patients, frontline workers and more as part of the ongoing project.

“People want real solutions – not lip service from Scott Moe and his failing Health Minister,” Conway said. “We know Saskatchewan has the worst physician shortage in the country — families can’t find a doctor in Prince Albert or anywhere else in the province for that matter.

“We will bring forward ideas to improve primary care, get people direct access to a doctor and relieve pressure on other critical pieces of our healthcare system in the process.

Clarke said people deserve real-time information about healthcare.

“We know the Sask. Party is more focused on the appearance that they’re fixing healthcare rather than actually fixing healthcare,” Clarke said. “They hide potentially lifesaving information about emergency rooms that are closed or overrun. They gaslight incredible frontline workers who speak out and they dismiss daily concerns from people being denied healthcare.

“If the Sask. Party was going to actually deliver change in healthcare, they would have done it by now. The reality is they broke the system and don’t have a clue how to fix it.

“It’s time for change.”
