CARLA BECK OFFERS ‘BETTER WAY FORWARD’ IN ADDRESS TO SUMA CONVENTION

Grid and Growth Plan, Collaboration With Communities Central To Plans For Saskatchewan’s Future
REGINA — Carla Beck addressed municipal leaders at the Saskatchewan Urban Municipalities Association (SUMA) convention today, outlining a “better way forward” that is built on collaboration, affordability and strong community partnerships.
Speaking to leaders from across the province, Beck emphasized the critical role municipalities play on the frontlines of delivering services and responding to challenges.

“Municipal leaders are the ones who see the impact up close when decisions are made,” Beck said. “You take the calls; you make it work — whether you have the resources you need or not. We’re committed to supporting the needs of your communities and working with you, not around you.”

A key focus of Beck’s remarks was the Saskatchewan NDP’s recently announced Grid and Growth Plan, a long-term strategy to modernize the province’s power system while keeping costs down. Beck said the plan would generate $33 billion in economic activity and create new opportunities for municipalities, including the ability to invest in local renewable energy projects.

“The Grid and Growth Plan keeps power rates affordable and predictable, harnesses our natural resources and positions us to attract billions in new investment,” Beck said. “Your communities will be able to generate power, support your own infrastructure and earn credits to lower costs. That’s a real, practical way to strengthen local economies.”

Beck said people in Saskatchewan municipalities have a clear choice now, between the 20-year-old Sask. Party Government that doesn’t listen and takes relationships for granted and the new approach offered by her team.
“Friends, it’s time for change — and I can’t wait to build something better together,” Beck said.
