BECK & TEAM TO PUSH FOR 15-CENT GAS PRICE CUT BY NEXT WEDNESDAY

Sask. NDP focused on saving families money before the holidays

REGINA – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck committed that her team will move to cut the price of gas by 15 cents as her first order of business in the Fall Sitting. Beck said savings at the pump could be seen as soon as Wednesday.

“We’ve got to lower costs for people and we’ve got to lower them now,” said Beck. “Families can’t wait until tax season next year. People voted for action and we aren’t going to waste a second.

“We committed to focus on their priorities, now we need the Sask. Party government to do the same.”

On Tuesday, the Saskatchewan NDP Caucus will introduce an emergency motion to suspend the provincial gas tax, which would immediately reduce gas and diesel prices by 15 cents per litre. If the motion receives bipartisan support, Saskatchewan drivers will save big at the pump by midnight Wednesday.

“Cutting the fuel tax is an action that this assembly can take on Tuesday to lower the cost of groceries and give families relief,” said Beck.

Provincial governments in Manitoba, Alberta, Ontario, and Newfoundland and Labrador have already delivered gas tax relief.

Beck criticized the Sask. Party government for a plan that doesn’t offer relief until tax time next year.

Beck also promised to unveil additional measures in time for the holiday season to help Saskatchewan families save hundreds of dollars.

“Over the next three weeks, this Sask. Party government will have a choice – will they follow suit and save taxpayers money now? Or will they continue to make life more expensive?”
