Nearly the entire 27-member Saskatchewan NDP Caucus was in the city for the discussions.
“We can secure our own economic future by getting major, nation-building projects built. I’m talking about more power lines, more pipelines and more rail lines,” Beck said, reiterating a call she made this week for more investment in short line rail infrastructure.
“We can unblock jammed rail lines so we can get our agricultural products to trading partners around the world,” she said. “In the weeks to come, you will continue to see more proposals from us to create good-paying jobs, reduce our reliance on the United States and drive investment into our province.
“We know that Saskatchewan is stronger within a united Canada.
The Saskatchewan NDP — and the incredible people behind our work right here in Yorkton won’t stop fighting — for this city, for Saskatchewan, for our country, for our future.”
Beck slammed a decision this week by the Sask. Party to remove all countermeasures against Donald Trump just one week after he imposed 50 per cent tariffs on Saskatchewan steel.
“This terrible decision by the Sask. Party will send Saskatchewan jobs and Saskatchewan tax dollars south of the border,” Beck said. “We needed to see strength. Instead, Scott Moe folded.”
Beck also noted she has written directly to Prime Minister Mark Carney urging him to do everything possible to get the Chinese tariffs on canola, canola meal, peas and pork removed. She said those tariffs are particularly harmful to a vibrant agribusiness centre like Yorkton.
The Saskatchewan NDP will continue attending community events in Yorkton Friday afternoon and evening.
