BECK PLEDGES BETTER WAGES, LOWER COST OF LIVING TO RETAIL WORKERS

Leader Delivers Address At Convention In Humboldt, Calls Workers The ‘Backbone Of Saskatchewan Economy’
HUMBOLDT - Carla Beck told delegates at the Retail, Wholesale and Department Store Union (RWDSU) Convention Wednesday that they “deserve a damn raise” a government laser-focused on making life more affordable in Saskatchewan, and that a Saskatchewan NDP government would put working people first by strengthening labour rights, raising wages and tackling the rising cost of living.
“I am sick and tired of growing inequality — of us sliding backwards on the standard of living in a such a rich province,” Beck said.

“I meet workers every day who are forced to stop at the food bank on their way home, who can’t shop in the very stores they work in and who are literally selling their blood plasma to pay the bills.

“It really is time for change.”

Beck said she would restore workers’ rights, support respect and dialogue at the collective bargaining table and put into force a series of actions that would make life more affordable from Day 1 of forming government. In the Spring Sitting, her team put forward nine bills to lower costs, including legislation to cut taxes on groceries and children’s clothing, reverse rate hikes for power and car insurance, ban AI-drive price gouging on essential items and deliver much-needed rent control after 43-straight months of increases in Saskatchewan.

“Scott Moe stood in the Legislature every day and said, ‘nothing to see here’ when asked about the sky-high cost of living,” Beck said. “When he got tired of that talking point, he insisted there was very little his government could do to make life more affordable — what complete nonsense.

“Our team is focused on action that make life better for hardworking and self-reliant Saskatchewan people. We’re showing people that not only is change possible, it’s on the way.”
