BECK CALLS ON MOE FOR TEAM SASKATCHEWAN APPROACH TO TARIFF THREAT

REGINA – Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck has written to Premier Scott Moe offering to work together to respond to the looming threat of 25 per cent tariffs from the incoming U.S. administration.

In a letter to Premier Moe, Beck offered the full support and resources of the Saskatchewan NDP Caucus to help protect Saskatchewan’s economy and prevent the damaging tariffs from being imposed.

“It’s time to put partisan interests aside for the sake of Saskatchewan,” said Beck.

“Threats to our economy and way of life go beyond politics. We must stand shoulder-to-shoulder with our neighbours and partners across Canada to defend our province and our livelihoods.”

“We need to tell the story of our vast resources, of our extensive exports of uranium, potash, oil and agricultural products, and of the intertwined trade relationship between our countries — $27 billion exported from Saskatchewan alone to the United States in 2023.”

Beck also raised the current instability in Ottawa, emphasizing the need for provincial leaders to rise above partisanship, work collaboratively, and ensure Saskatchewan’s voice is heard as part of a broader Team Canada strategy.

“We’ve had key industry players and representatives reach out in recent days, and I believe we need to bring all of their ideas and solutions to the table with a united message. I would also offer to help facilitate bringing Canadian industry groups together to ensure the U.S. understands that their energy sovereignty is North America’s energy sovereignty.”

Beck invited Premier Moe to meet this week to discuss next steps.

Her caucus holds nearly half of the seats in the Legislature, representing most of the province’s two largest cities and Northern Saskatchewan.
