SECOND SEPARATIST PETITON FROM SOVERNIGN SASKATCHEWAN AMASSES 5,000 SIGNATURES
REGINA – A second right-wing pressure group has brought their separatist campaign to the front door of the Legislature.
Sovreign Saskatchewan plastered posters around the Legislative grounds directing passersby to sign the online petition to make it easier for Saskatchewan to separate from Canada.
The group says that their petition is “inspired by Premier Danielle Smith’s recent reforms in Alberta” and calls on the Sask. Party government to do the same. It has amassed 5,000 signatures.
“Even if it’s unsuccessful, a referendum vote in Saskatchewan is bad for business and bad for our economy. Period,” said Sally Housser, Saskatchewan NDP Shadow Minister for Energy and Resources.
“It’s time for Scott Moe to finally send a clear message to workers and investors that Saskatchewan will be a stable place to build and do business. Denounce Sovreign Saskatchewan and Unified Grassroots.”
This week, evidence emerged that two Sask. Party MLAs have ties to Unified Grassroots, another separatist group that is petitioning for Saskatchewan to leave Canada.
Neither of the MLAs in question, David Chan and Jamie Martens, have been made available to members of the media to clarify their position on separatism.
“Scott Moe and the Sask. Party should be taking its direction from the people of Saskatchewan, not fringe pressure groups,” Housser said.
“The fact that he’s ducked and dodged all opportunities to denounce Unified Grassroots only raises more questions about the sway of these activists in his own Caucus.
“Leaving the door open to separatism is simply irresponsible. Investors need three things – stability, stability, and stability.”
Saskatchewan NDP Leader Carla Beck introduced critical legislation yesterday to make it harder for the Sask. Party government to break up Saskatchewan and Canada. Scott Moe and his Sask. Party MLAs have not yet taken questions from reporters on the bill.
