SCOTT MOE’S BAD NEWS BUDGET DELIVERS NOTHING FOR MOOSE JAW SCHOOLS
Carla Beck’s Team Demands Better As Sask. Party Cuts School Capital Funding By Nearly $70 Million

“This Premier is slashing vital funding to our schools that are in urgent need of renovations, “said Joan Pratchler, Associate Education Shadow Minister.

“Our students are our future – we should be supporting them in every way possible to ensure they feel safe and set up for success in the classroom. This budget fails them so badly.”

A recent government report highlights widespread neglect of Saskatchewan schools, a result of years of underinvestment in infrastructure. It found more than 140 schools across the province in “poor” or “critical” condition.

Last week, Education Shadow Minister Matt Love met with local leaders who emphasized the urgent need for minor capital funding to renovate schools in Moose Jaw.

“It is abundantly clear that Moose Jaw schools need this funding but once again those calls are being ignored by the Sask. Party,” Love said. “So many schools are left waiting, yet the Premier made sure his hometown got a brand new one — that says everything about this government’s priorities.”

There were more than 200 schools across over 103 Saskatchewan communities in worse shape than the existing schools in Moe’s hometown of Shellbrook.

“This is a bad news budget that will cost people more while doing nothing to address the growing crisis in our schools,” Love said. “Saskatchewan students and families deserve better.”

“Clearly, it’s time for change.”
